A Festival and More from Red Hook Rotary (Aired on May 4 and 5, 2019)

RadioRotary takes its microphone to a meeting of Red Hook Rotary for breakfast
at Cancun’s. Rotarian Dave Wright describes this year’s Apple Blossom Festival,
a village-wide celebration of spring with many food and craft vendors as well as
live entertainment and special treats for children. In addition to commercial
activity, organizations such as the high school, library, and town board have
information booths. Local banks are financial sponsors, so entrance and parking
are both free. In another interview, Rotarian Christine Chale describes the
several Rotary-sponsored international youth exchange programs, ranging from
a short-term summer exchange in which the same two high-school students from
here and from abroad trade for each others houses sequentially to the long-term
full school year exchange in which an older student lives with two or three
different families. Red Hook also participates in a program called “CLYNK;”
bottles and plastic are recycled through a local Hannaford’s supermarket in
special bags and money collected is used for a good purpose—in Red Hook,
providing hygiene products to be distributed to needy families at the local food
pantry. Some other Red Hook Rotary projects are also noted.
