Pleasant Valley Library Rises from Ashes (Aired on August 9, 2020)

Daniela Pulice, Director of the Pleasant Valley Free Library, returns to the RadioRotary microphones to tell the co-hosts about the amazing progress the Library has made since the old building and collection were destroyed by fire on election day, 2018. Thanks to the generous gift of the use of a former grocery store by Pleasant Valley realtor Herb Redl, the Library was able to re-open in the donated quarters just three months after the fire, although it then had to close again for three months in 2020 due to COVID-19; but since June, 2020, has re- opened in the new space. The community has been generous to the organization that is central to its identity—donating some 25,000 books to replace the lost collection and a considerable amount of cash to build a new Library building on the old site. About $3 million is needed for rebuilding, and with insurance money, grants, and donations, the Library is more than two-thirds of way to reach that goal. Listen to the program to learn about the many activities and offerings available now and consider donating to the wonderful organization.
