A Town Recreation Program (Aired on November 26 and 27, 2016)

RadioRotary interviews Sandy Coe, recreation director for the Town of Pleasant Valley, NY.  Her programs span the ages from pre-school through the senior citizens of the town. Her philosophy is to listen to residents expressing their interests, then develop activities that fulfill those interests; one example, is a Pokemon program inspired by the interest of a middle-school student, an activity that soon included participants of all ages. The most visible recreation-department programs for youth are soccer and basketball teams, which compete with teams from other country towns. A special event each holiday season is the Festival of Lights, which combines a parade with many floats, food from local vendors, and encounters with Santa Claus.  The Festival is sponsored in part by Pleasant Valley Rotary along with the recreation department, the Lions Club, the historical society, and the fire department.
