Family Services and the Family Partnership (Aired on August 29, 2021)

Brian Doyle, CEO for Family Services, describes for RadioRotary listeners the enormous scope of his organization, which operates in Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster counties. He emphasizes the Behavioral Health Centers in several locations, which promote mental health, and the Center for Victim Safety and Support, which provides 24-hour non-residential, comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, scams, and other crimes. The Family Partnership Center in Poughkeepsie, a centerpiece of Family Services, collaborates with some 20 organizations for humanitarian services based largely in a 100-year-old building in downtown Poughkeepsie. All Family Partnership services (except the Behavioral Health Centers) are free. The Partnership Center is very excited that they are adding a branch of the Poughkeepsie Public Library in the building. Because of the building’s age, the Family Partnership is about to undergo considerable repairs and remodeling, including a new roof and new front entrance.

Roger’s Run for AMC (Aired on June 6, 2021)

Lisa Loughran, whose son Roger was born with the rare joint-and-muscle disease AMC (arthrogryposis multiplex congenita), visits RadioRotary to tell about the annual event for raising awareness and funds, Roger’s Run. When Roger was born in 2010, he displayed the form of AMC in which the joints are “frozen” in a way that all the limbs are completely extended. The condition, which
also causes muscles to atrophy, was diagnosed before birth, leading Mrs. Loughran to seek out the AMC Support Group, which has helped immensely. Local doctors learned more about the disease and have gone beyond ordinary duties as Roger has gone through numerous surgeries. Despite the problems. Roger is active in Red Hook school and sports, inspiring the Red Hook Community. Roger’s Run includes several levels of both virtual and physical runs or just an opportunity to donate to an excellent cause.

Enhancing Poughkeepsie’s Schools (Aired on April 11, 2021)

Radio Rotary Co-Host Jonah Triebwasser and Produces Kathy Kruger chat with Angela Henry, the new Executive Director of the Poughkeepsie Public Schools Foundation (PPSF). PPSF was founded in 2008 to put musical instruments in the hands of students who could not afford to rent them. Over the years the Foundation has raised and distributed over $40,000 for projects as diverse as museum field trips, the creation of school gardens, and college scholarships. In 2021, PPSF hired Ms. Henry, a local educational and nonprofit consultant, as its first paid Executive Director. She is in the process of expanding the programs of PPSF, including the Saturday Morning Lights program for younger students, which brings local talent to introduce learning as varied as yoga and urban engineering (learning about urban streets). PPSF is a nonprofit that raises the money that makes these programs possible. On May 20, 2021, the gala fundraiser feature professional and student performers will be online.

Poughkeepsie’s Juvenile Intervention Program (Aired on February 28, 2021)

Satara Brown, founder of Rebuilding Our Children and Community, Inc. returns to RadioRotary to tell about her work with the juvenile division of the City of Poughkeepsie police department, especially the pilot Juvenile Intervention Program. Ms. Brown has been heavily involved in helping young persons mature and find better lives for a long time, including (but hardly limited to) founding Rebuilding Our Children and Community, Inc. Ms. Brown also is Director of Communications and Community Engagement for Day One Early Learning Community in Poughkeepsie (which is scheduled to open in 2021) and a board member of the Poughkeepsie Schools Foundation. The new Juvenile Interventions program, open to any youth needed more support, includes weekly meetings and monthly workshops, often in connection with the program’s local partners such as Hudson River Housing, Dutchess Country Probation, Mental Health American of Dutchess County, and many others.
