RadioRotary Wins New York State Award Two Years in a Row

The New York State Broadcasters Association, which includes both radio and television, presented its prestigious Award of Excellence in Broadcasting in the category of Public Affairs Program/Series to RadioRotary, District 7210’s public image initiative, for the second year in a row. To prevent bias in the competition, the NYS winners are selected by a Broadcasting Association from another state, this year by Missouri. The decision is based on all elements of production including content (Betty Renner, Series Producer), technical excellence (Jay Verzi, Audio Producer), and the skills of the co-hosts, Sarah O’Connell and Jonah Triebwasser. Featured award recipients included Broadcaster of the Year, Seth Meyers from Saturday Night Live (who presented Sarah O’Connell with the RR award), and New Yorker of the Year, U.S. Representative Peter King. The award ceremony was held at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George on June 24.

RadioRotary: Honored with a Service Project Spotlight

by the 2012 Zone 24/32 Rotary Institute

RadioRotary was one of seven projects selected as a 2012 Service Project Spotlight by the Zone 24/32 Rotary Institute. The Program Chair called it “an outstanding project.” Along with this honor comes a request to make a presentation at one of the plenary sessions during this year’s conference to be held in Vancouver on October 18-21, 2012.

Each year, Zone Institutes provide Rotarians with an informative opportunity to network. Their theme for 2012, Proud Leaders Celebrate Service, reflects the service of Rotarians around the globe, with a focus on their leadership locally and internationally in all 5 Avenues of Rotary Service. The Institutes invite past, current, and incoming Rotary International officers, along with senior Rotary leaders, to gather and discuss plans for the next Rotary year, maximizing time for networking. Delegates are updated about current trends of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

Worldwide, Rotary is organized into 34 zones, 561 districts, and 34,098 clubs that include
1,227,366 members. Rotary Zones are often paired for efficiency, and one such pair is Rotary Zones 24 and 32, which together consist of 1,947 Rotary clubs in 37 districts, covering New England, New Jersey, portions of New York and Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Canada, Eastern Russia, Alaska, and the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon and Bermuda.
