Celebrating Community Service: Kingston Rotary's Epic Day of Service

Aired April 27th 2025

The Kingston Rotary Club is gearing up for an extraordinary event, the Epic Day of Service on Saturday, May 17th, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Held at the Ulster County YMCA on Broadway, Kingston, this special day promises a blend of community service, health awareness, and public engagement that is open to everyone.

What to Expect at the Epic Day of Service

The Epic Day of Service is set to feature a range of activities designed to promote wellness, community interaction, and of course, fun. Attendees will have access to various wellness checks, including blood pressure and diabetes screenings, which Kingston Rotarian Kevin Troyer emphasizes as vital. “This is no joke with blood pressure screening. They may add 20 years to your life,” Kevin reminds us, underscoring the importance of regular health check-ups.

In addition to wellness checks, the event will host a variety of fitness classes. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or someone curious about light calisthenics, there will be opportunities for all ages to try something new. Children will also have their segment, with games and activities tailored especially for them.

For food lovers, the Epic Day of Service will not disappoint. “You’ll have tacos and your traditional Latino mix of food,” Kevin shares. “And I’m working on two more, maybe an Italian truck or a good hot dog truck.” The combination of wellness and delectable food is intended to cater to all tastes and highlight the community's diverse offerings.

More Than Just a Day

The Epic Day of Service is more than a single event; it’s a movement that encourages community participation year-round. The unique aspect of this day is its openness to the public. Kevin highlights, “It’s a time to bring a population to the community that sometimes otherwise wouldn’t be able to walk in and have a blood pressure screening, or a diabetes screening.”

Rotarians like Kevin Troyer are an integral part of such initiatives. Driven by a personal journey into community service, Kevin found solace in Rotary, saying, “I wanted to drown out the noise... I want to be where the real people are, and I found Rotary.”

Get Involved

The Kingston Rotary Club’s efforts don’t stop with this event. Throughout the year, they organize activities like the ‘Mutt Strut’ and free ‘Concerts in the Park’ series. These events exemplify their dedication to serving and improving their community.
